Local Rules and Terms of Competition

 

The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association govern play. These Local Rules and Terms of the Competition are in effect for the 2023 Swag Series National Championship

USGA Rule 23-Four Ball and Rule 24-Team Competition Stroke Play will govern all Swag Series events.

All golf course local rules will be in effect

 
 

Net Competition - Players will play at 65% of their verified USGA Handicap for the National Championship

Maximum playing handicap for Series events is 18.0. Playing handicap is defined as taking a players index and applying the slope and rating to determine the players playing handicap. Should the playing handicap exceed 18, it will be adjusted to 18.

Double Par - The maximum score on any hole is Double Par of the hole:

  • Par 3s - Max Score is 6
  • Par 4s - Max Score is 8
  • Par 5s - Max Score is 10
  • Players MUST pick up their ball and help their group finish the hole as quickly as possible.

Digital Scorecards - Players will be required to use the Golf Genius Scoring App for all Series Competitions. This means that players will keep their playing opponents score and vice versa. Digital live scoring will be considered official once a groups score is attested and confirmed at scoring table after completion of round.

Unmarked / Unidentified Areas - If your ball has been deemed to come to rest in an unmarked/unidentifiable area, player will treat that as a red penalty area. USGA Rule 17-1c & 17-1d

Drop Zones - Drop zones for all Par 3s will be assigned the forward-most teeing ground on that given hole (not mandatory).

Divots - If a players ball comes to rest in a divot on the hole you are playing, player is entitled to free relief from the divot.

Unplayable Bunkers - Players will be allowed to "rake and roll" unplayable bunkers

Pace of Play Guideline Under USGA Rule 6-7 & 33-1, the Tournament Committee may establish pace of play guidelines including maximum periods of time allowed to complete a stipulated round, a hole, or a stroke.

  • Each player is given 40 seconds to complete each stroke once it is his/her turn to play.

It is NOT the committee’s responsibility to warn players for slow play. It is the PLAYERS responsibility to monitor their pace of play to ensure that the group stays on pace.Bunkers - Players may only rake and roll bunkers if their ball has come to rest in a non-man made or unmaintained condition.

One Ball Rule - Will NOT be in effect for the National Championship.


Tiebreakers - Weather and daylight permitting, ALL (Gross and Net divisions) ties for 1st place will be settled by sudden-death GROSS scored playoff on the course. The format for all on course playoffs will be TEAM ALTERNATE SHOT


Alternate Shot format will be 1 player from each team teeing off, then your partner will play the next shot, alternating each shot until the ball is holed.

Each of a playoff will be a new hole and teams can elect to have a different partner start the hole.


All other ties will be broken by scorecard playoffs as follows:

  1. Last 9 holes
  2. Last 6 holes
  3. Last 3 holes
  4. Hole-by-hole scores on course handicap holes beginning with the #1 handicap
 

Close of Competition - The competition is deemed to have closed when the trophy has been presented to the winner or, in the absence of a prize ceremony, when the scores have been approved by the Committee.

If there is a disagreement or uncertainty of the Rules of Golf a player must announce that he/she is playing a second ball. The first ball played will be the ball as it lies; second ball will be according to the alternate rule.

At the conclusion of the round, the Event Manager will make the final ruling. The Event Manager may use golf course personnel to aid in final decision
